Chance to purchase Bunlahy Bilty Calves

Cheeklaw have entered 3 cows and calves and 2 two-year old in-calf heifers at the Best of Blacks Sale on Saturday 25 September 2010 at John Swan Ltd, Newtown St. Boswells. Some of the cows will have the very first Bunlahy Bilty calves to be put on the market. One cow Cheeklaw Promise is a daughter of Cheeklaw’s show cow Pollyanna of Cheeklaw and is a show champion in her own right. David’s daughter Sian will also have her first ever female for sale, a 4 year old cow, Cymraes Patience, with a Bunlahy Bilty heifer calf at foot. Look out for these honest cattle with smart looking calves at foot.

Great Show, Relaxed Atmosphere & a 1st Prize

On Saturday we attended The Berwickshire County Show [Duns Show]. After deciding in January 2010 that we were going to take a year out of showing we felt really guilty when the entry date drew close for Duns. Being our local show we decided to enter a cow, Cheeklaw Era, that had been shown as a yearling, two year old and three year old however what we forgot in our laid back approach was……her calf hadn’t!!!! On the Tuesday before the show we casually brought Era and her calf Eireland in and whether it was our “oh well” attitude or whether the calf had adopted his fathers [Bunlahy Bilty] gentle temperament  or what…we don’t know….but this calf took to halter breaking like a ‘duck to water’!!!! Never have we seen an animal adapt to being tied up and being led so quickly and so easily. Anyway his relaxed approach rubbed off on the day with everyone enjoying Duns’ 125th Anniversary and Era and Eireland securing 1st prize in the Cow & Calf class. We would like to congratulate Tom, Wendy, John & Jack Arnott from Haymount for their Championship success with a cracking yearling heifer. Well done guys.

Cheeklaws National Show Exhibit is covered in flowers

The Cheeklaw team tackle a different style of halter breaking! Sian with help from Dave and Chris attempt to model a life size yearling Aberdeen Angus bull that will be covered in black flowers and showcased at the Border Union Show. Sian who runs Blooming Unique a floristry business in Duns thought the model would adptly celebrate the NationalAberdeen Angus Show coming to Kelso and to add a ‘quirky’ decoration to the Border Angus / AACS stand. Pictures will be posted here shortly.
